Present (video)

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

I finally got this video to work; enjoy. At about 1:50 Nora notices the camera and the exchange is:

Nora: *curious face, shakes head* no camera, please.
Jen: what, honey?
Nora: my daddy did it.

Apparently she can tell the difference between a camera that is sitting on a chair and a camera that is sitting on a chair and recording. :)

Nora’s first video blog

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I had no idea this was going to be what we ended up doing when I turned on the crummy video camera on the laptop. My sincere apologies to everyone whose name we forgot to say. Leave a comment and she’ll greet you next time. :)

Oh! and sorry about the terrible sound.

video from bike “ride”

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

watch until the end where she crashes down on the crossbar. I suspect the pain was enough to make a shy, bald Buddhist reflect and plan a mass murder (or perhaps not).

p.s. she clearly hurt herself at least a little bit on the crossbar; hugging followed and then she returned to running around with the bike like a mad thing.

mimi bouse!

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Nora has become terribly fond of Mickey Mouse (this video also shows why I now back up my hard drive twice each day). Incidentally, that’s some kind of weird, early bearded Goofy she points at when Jen asks “where’s Mickey?”, but she really can tell them apart. :) She’s watching “The Band Concert” from 1935. Interestingly, Mickey is very much the heavy of the piece; such rage!

This is a youtube video of her watching Mickey Mouse on a youtube video. Maybe tomorrow I’ll make a youtube video of Nora watching Nora watching Mickey on youtube? I can’t wait to see a video of Mickey watching Nora watching Nora watching Mickey.

Nora and Beth

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Here’s Nora and her cousin (yes, cousin) Beth playing on a stool at Granny’s house this weekend. I can’t tell which part is my favorite: the grinning clapping or the look of admiration Nora gives Bethy at the end. You decide. (Sorry I cut off your head for most of this, Beth. My general advice is to keep yourself in frame with Nora — as that’s the only thing I’m looking at).

grannydance

Monday, August 10th, 2009

It’s like riverdance without the ridiculous clip-on hair and bare chested male lead (or his fake Irish accent). Here Nora is learning a thing or two about Irish dancing from her Granny McGowan (TCRG, ADCRG).

babyslide: the movie

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Often, as in this movie, we’re still giggling as Nora toddles off to whatever the next thing is. In this case, though, the toddling causes the giggling.

yet another video: watching the last video

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Here’s some footage of Nora watching the bubble video we posted yesterday. It’s all very meta and postmodern and self referential and I need a shave. I think my favorite moment is when she turns, sees Jennie holding the camera, and thinks it’s a phone. [ edit: it was the phone. it was sitting on the desk. my new favorite part is the end. ]

Nora, it should be noted, thinks that all Jen and I do all day is sit around with our laptops staring at pictures and videos of her. This is what you might call “firmly rooted in fact”.

bubble!

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Nora’s seen one of these full-body bubble things before (at the Boston Children’s Museum) so she knew just what it was and made a beeline for it today at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Here’s a short video of what followed. You can see her blowing into the giant bubbles, trying to hug them, demanding more with cries of “bubble! bubble!” and… well… I’ll explain the ending after you watch.

Yes, that’s right. For reasons that absolutely deny comprehension, our daughter bends over, scoops her little hand through the trough of bubbles, and shoves the frothy white goodness into her mouth. I’m sorry I failed to capture the look on her face and the series of sounds she made as we rushed her to the drinking fountain and bathroom.

northside tunnel

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

One probably gets the impression from this site that Nora’s life is eating, sleeping and playing at the playground. One only gets this impression because it’s pretty much exactly right. Here’s a video of Nora playing on the Northside school playground. As you’ll see, she’s a little freaked out about being 10 feet or so off the ground with a see-through floor beneath her. I apologize for the jittery video at the beginning; that’s where I whacked my head on the tunnel.
