summertime swings

Monday, June 28th, 2010

A favorite way to end the day is to walk over to the park near our house and play on the swings. This time I tried to show Nora that a pendulum held at the chin and released can’t possibly come back and hit the releaser in the face; she made it clear that this fact about the physical universe only holds if the pendulum can’t kick. Ouch.

As always, click to enlarge and for the occasional surprise.

moderately hungry caterpillars

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Nora and I picked up our Zilke Vegetable Farm CSA share today and the broccoli came with a dozen or so free green caterpillars at no extra charge. Here Nora and I are getting to know 2 of them before letting them go get eaten by our family of robins live happily ever after as beautiful butterflies. She even let me put a baby one on her thumb for a while. “He tickles!”

Today is also Nora’s monthaversary. She’s 2 years and 7 months old today. As always, click for bigger pictures and the occasional surprise.

Nora and Kacie

We went to Papa and Baba’s house back on June 13th to help celebrate Uncle Eric’s birthday (which he shares with United States flag day). Here are some photos of the girls playing.

Domino’s Petting Farm

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Nora’s school took the day off yesterday so we made the most of it and went to the nearest petting farm. She particularly enjoyed getting to see a baby goat crying because he didn’t want to take a bath. She scolded another goat for climbing up on a hay bale (“you get down! you’ll hurt yous body!”). She made me stand as close as possible to an adult cow while she (the cow) mooed. I’d guess it was at least 90dB and maybe as loud as 95 (I’ll bring my spl meter next time we go). She sang the 5 little ducks song to 4 little ducks. A cow slurped her entire hand up with her tongue (this is hilarious, apparently). She asked an attendant if she could hug the llama (before getting frightened off by its carrot-fueled exuberance). She wanted no part of the pot bellied pig (not kosher). She said “no no, daddy.” very gravely at the snapping turtle. She ordered a kitten to “stand still!” so she could hug her. She really enjoyed the hay ride. And she patently refused to accept that the ponies were ponies or that the donkeys were donkeys. I have no idea what she thought they were.

the Zoo

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Nora’s Aunt Colleen, cousin Beth, Nora, and I went to the zoo last Friday and had a blast. She particularly enjoyed the penguins and the train, was freaked out by the size of the tigers, and spent the entire day successfully dry in big girl pants.

I’m not adorable, I’m a Nora.

the bucket hand band

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

Our friends Susan and Jordan came over Thursday night for dinner and some very important musical improvisation time. “It’s like STOMP! without having to stand up”, raves one reviewer (me).
