goodbye, puggy

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

We regret to share that wonderful little dog, indoor running partner, and helpful research assistant) Puggy has passed away. He was the first dog Nora ever met and doubtless forms the basis of her definition of the word. He was a sweet little dog and his weekly visits will be sorely missed by all of us here at the blue house.

The Wave Field

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Today we had a lovely picnic dinner with Salomé and her family at Maya Lin’s wave field. Maya Lin is, as you may know, the designer of the Vietnam War memorial in Washington D.C.. This sculpture of hers on Michigan’s North Campus is surprisingly little known but very, very cool. Here are some shots of Nora and her friend playing on art under a gorgeous, if somewhat cool, sunny spring day.

Kacie Day!

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

It’s been 1 year since Kacie’s first birthday and, predictably perhaps, she’s recently turned two. A great time was had by all (even those who were utterly exhausted because they failed to nap).

The ride home was a different story. Cranky, cranky Nora cried and complained the entire way home.

the nap that wasn’t.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leafs a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
-Robert Frost

Robert Frost used to live about two blocks from here, but I bet HE stayed in bed when he was supposed to be taking a nap and didn’t ransack his own room.

Nora of the Blue House

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

We used Elysium Painters, a local company, and absolutely could not be more pleased with the work. Cesar invented the color for us and he and his team worked their tails off to make our dilapidated-looking old house look practically new again. I feel like I snuck out of Greenfield Village with a house in my coat (only fair, really, since Greenfield Village took Robert Frost’s House from our street). Here’s Nora posing in front of her blue house.
