cheer cheer cheerio!

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

I’m sure no one’s as fascinated as Jen and I are by these countless pictures and videos of Nora eating but, darn it, sometimes she does stuff that’s cute. Here she is making herself some kind of edible cracker craft and showing off her “cheers” ability (she says “cheers” around 1:45).

p.s. Now that youtube supports embedding HD video players in pages I’m giving them another try. Please let us know if this doesn’t work for you (or works particularly well).

nora took this picture

Monday, July 6th, 2009

I believe this will be the first picture ever posted to Nora’s blog that is not a picture of Nora. This is because, as the title so subtly suggests, Nora took this picture. She enjoys being the star of her own web site but her real dream is to direct.

summer playground fun

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

We all took a walk this afternoon and, as usual, ended up at the playground near our house. Here are a few photos of Nora having summertime fun.

lawn mower

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

okay, I can admit it. The real reason we decided to have a baby was so that one day that baby would take over mowing the lawn. Friday that dream became a reality. Nora did a fine job. Sure, she mowed the perennial beds, took out a solar light, lacerated a garden hose and the lawn looks like it was attacked by vandals; but I didn’t have to touch the mower. It’s a start.

p.s. very little of this is true.

edamame

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

I’m pretty sure this is the first time Nora’s successfully shelled her own edamame; it’s definitely the first time she’s done it sitting at the table sans high chair. The experiment was surprisingly successful but, as the video shows, she’s not quite ready to give up that high chair. Note: the cardboard box on the table is the box for this new camera in case we send it back. Pity I didn’t think to move that.

new, fast camera; same faster toddler

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Some of you may have noticed that recently our pictures have mostly fallen into two categories:

  1. the side (or back) of Nora’s head.
  2. Nora strapped-into a chair of some kind (stroller, high chair, etc*.).

This is because she has recently gotten too fast and wiley for our poor old 3 megapixel Canon PowerShot S410 to handle. We might have a great shot of Nora playing with blocks, but by the time the camera boots up and the lens has time to adjust focus Nora is two counties away with some old lady’s knickers on her head. So we took the plunge this week and got a new camera: a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 10 megapixel wonder with 18x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, HD film recording and a host of other high tech doodads (technical term) designed to (or at least marketed as if designed to) improve our chances of getting a clear shot of the bean.

Sadly, there seems to be a learning curve.

first text message: Ink

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Nora texted the word ‘Ink’ to our friend Lauren this afternoon. She also helped send Zara a “Happy 4th birthday” message this weekend (from her very own gmail account, no less). And not only did she manage to call Grandma and Grandpa with Jen’s cell phone but she also managed to set up a 3-way call (which we didn’t actually know the phone could do). Who’s the master of all media now!? Unrelated picture follows.
