Nora apparently made a fort out of her Grandma’s purple coat when they were watching her last Wednesday. We weren’t there, we have no idea, but we thought the devilish grin demanded a post.
While Jen and I were getting ready to head out today Nora decided (a) we were taking too long (b) she wanted some green beans right that moment and (c) she knows how to use zippers and containers now. Not pictured: earlier today she did the same thing with peaches and smeared them everywhere.
When I got home from work today Nora got very excited, put on her hat (really), made me get down her snowsuit for her, and pushed open the front storm door. I interpreted this as a subtle request to go for a walk and so we did! Here are some pictures of Nora on her first ever walk outside which included: crunchy gravel, a nice old man whom Nora tried to adopt, a puddle that stymied her briefly, crunchy leaves, the baby swings, a nice cyclist whom Nora tried to adopt, and a couple of big kids (comparatively wizened preschoolers).
These plastic buckets are Nora’s go-to toy and have been for months now. This is not one of your exciting videos (again, not for the casual visitor), but it does show impressive new motor control and cause & effect knowledge on Nora’s part.
In Nora’s case, the apple clearly does not fall far from the tree:
Yes, that is Nora inhaling a Little Debbie Swiss Cake Roll, her daddy’s very favorite junk food addiction. I’m not sure how Daddy will handle the competition!
Nora loves apples. Here is photographic proof of Nora loving apples. No matter what Jen might post tomorrow and no matter what horrible thing Nora might be eating in the thing Jen posts tomorrow… apples. Healthy, life-giving, doctor-away-keeping apples.
It’s important to keep one’s career options open when one is a toddler. Here we see Nora practicing to be… what? a bmx champion? a stuntwoman? an EXTREME sports hero? taller?
The thing she’s touching in the first picture has a big label: ‘DANGER! HOT, DO NOT TOUCH’ This, of course, is a very helpful sign for a toddler as the bright, red color shows them which thing they’re most especially supposed to play with.
We took Nora in for her 15 month checkup and oil change on Wednesday. She’s tracking just on the positive side of the median for height, scraping the bottom of the 10% line for weight again (up from a low of 2%), and also had her head size measured. Before any of this could happen, though, we changed her into her spiffy hospital gown, left the door open, and left her shoes on. Naturally, she made a run for it.
bonus video: dancing
Ever since she saw her granny do it last week, Nora’s been trying to dance. Here’s a video I caught with our digital camera of her dancing. You should be able to hear her tapping her feet just as the dr walks in. Then (and this is my favorite part) she tries to scurry away to hide from the doctor behind mom’s legs but she gets distracted by the cabinets on the way and literally can’t resist their siren song.
nora: *tap tap tap tap tap*
jen: you need a video camera for that one.
me: that’s what I’m doing.
jen: (to nora) dance?
dr krieger: she is just too cute.
(we totally agree but now we have an official medical opinion on the subject. happily, there are no prescriptions for a serious case of “too cute”).
