early gifts

One year ago today Jen started labor. This officially kicks off (in my mind, anyway) our celebration of Nora’s first birthday.
Here we let her really dig into the presents our friends Jill, Peter, and Fred brought her last weekend.

I thought that Jen’s labor was very short. Did it also happen to span midnight?

Her labor was 2.5 days long but took place almost entirely at home. Delivery was insanely fast (18 minutes), but labor was long. The part that really surprised both of us was how high Jen’s pain tolerance is. The triage nurses who tell you when to come in (or not come in) for labor do so based on the apparent suffering and behavior of the mom who calls. My statistical analysis suggested we were exactly as far along as we ended up being, but Jen’s demeanor convinced the nurses otherwise.
We’re very, very lucky we live so close to the hospital or we’d have ended up having a baby in the car.

thanks, Andrew! Her actual birthday is Wednesday, but every day is a party at Ruggles’ End.

I can’t believe it has been a year already since it all began =)
Does this mean you are going to keep her?

yeah, I guess we have to. But doesn’t she earn her freedom at 1 year and 1 day?
