obligatory baby-eating-her-first-birthday-cake photos: carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. We postponed Nora’s first taste of birthday cake until today since (a) she was not quite herself still yesterday and (2) we were going to be having Thanksgiving dinner today anyway. So here are some pictures of Nora enjoying her first birthday cake in the high chair at Jen’s mom & dad’s house.

birthday shopping!
We took Nora to the completely amazing Tree Town Toys today to pick out something for her birthday. She had her eye on this cute little piano but, once again, it’s an out-of-tune and un-tunable nightmare. We ended up getting her a set of stacking cups just like the ones she won’t let anyone else play with at baby school.
one year of nora
Here are (almost) all of the pictures we took with our camera during Nora’s first year. They’ll flip by at 10 pictures per second with some regrettably predictable background music. I never claimed to be a wonderful video director –just to have a pretty wonderful little girl.
Happy 1st Birthday, Nora. We love you very much.

home sick.
Poor Nora got sent home sick from baby school today with a 101 degree fever. It’s since come back down, she’s napped, she’s chasing the pink dragon (that is, we gave her baby tylenol), and she’s eating some brunch. Still… she’s not in what you’d call a sunny mood.
Oh, we also neglected to mention here when Nora graduated to the no-bar version of her high chair; it’s just a whirlwind of excitement and viruses around here.
to the lighthouse er… couch.
Recently Nora has figured out she can get up onto things if she pushes other things next to them. She initially figured this out with our couch and her wagon.
2 new teeth!
We noticed this afternoon that Nora’s upper pair of first molars have erupted! This brings the grand total (so far) to 10. 10 beautiful teeth! bwah ha ha ha!
These teeth are insanely difficult to photograph so, instead, here’s a picture of Nora humiliating our poor bear. This is nothing compared to the phenomenon of bear surfing: Nora puts Ruggles on the floor and then kind of dives onto him. It’s half cuddle and half big time wrestling move (and 100% adorable (unless you’re the bear)).
early gifts
One year ago today Jen started labor. This officially kicks off (in my mind, anyway) our celebration of Nora’s first birthday.
Here we let her really dig into the presents our friends Jill, Peter, and Fred brought her last weekend.
beanstalk on wheels!
Just when you thought it was safe to leave your laptop on the couch…
Tonight Nora figured out that you can roll your little red wagon in front of the couch, climb into it, and use it to boost yourself up onto said couch: the land of forbidden treasures! Suddenly I think I understand why Shakers have those rings of pegs around the room. It’s so they can hang all of their Shaker laptops and Shaker power cables and Shaker backpacks up on the wall and out of the reach of stuff stalking beans and their portable beanstalks!
