how the mighty have fallen (and been dragged)

October 12th, 2008 by clunis

Nora was once smaller than ruggles. Then she was about the same size as ruggles. It wasn’t long before overtook him. Now, though, she’s 29 inches tall, 17 lbs, and has taken to dragging the poor bear off his chair and hugging him like chocolate might come out if she squeezes hard enough. I’m sure he appreciates the newfound source of affection, but being dragged about by the foot (his head thumping along the floor) is an incredibly undignified state of affairs for an erudite bear with an ever-present bow tie. We’re sorry, ruggles, but the kid wins.

Hello, My name is Aaryn and I live in Connecticut. I googled “Ruggles bear” and this was one of the first things that came up. I’ve had a Ruggles bear now for almost 21 years, since I was year old. My uncle Donald gave him to me several months before he passed away from AIDS. It’s the exact same bear that Nora has in her picture. Gold, fluffy, with a green and red plaid ribbon around his neck, made by the N. American Bear Co. Granted, my Ruggles no longer has his ribbon or gold fur, and he’s flat as a pancake from years of sleeping under my cheek… He still has all his limbs and two eyes though! I’ll send you a picture if you like – he looks nothing like he did. The Ruggles bear is the absolute best, and no matter how much he takes from Nora, he will be the most loving bear. Have you ever read the childrens’ story of the Velveteen Rabbit? It’s a lot like that. :) Looks like he’s Nora’s best bud. This really made my day! Thank you!

I’d *love* to see a picture of your Ruggles. Ours is basically a member of the family. :)
