movin’

July 16th, 2008 by clunis

What do you do when you’re so tired you can barely keep your eyes open? Why you crawl forward for the first time, of course. As if in response to Jojo’s request of yesterday, a (21mb) movie of Nora crawling.

Very cool! Consider yourself lucky to actually capture a first on film. Two questions:
    1. What kind of video camera?
    2. What is the tune? I really dig it. (My guess is Wes Montgomery)

She had made tiny forward movements before. In the linguistics main office a week or so ago she managed to move forward about 5 inches without face-planting. This video captures the first time we’d seen her demonstrate an ability to crawl forward whatever distance she wants at will.

    1. A Panasonic SDR-S150. I was adamant that I didn’t want tape and I really wasn’t willing to accept the quality of a DVD camera. As it is, I think tapes might be kind of nice to have as artifacts and I end up throwing away most of my frames and resolution before uploading anyway. :)

    2. RIght! It’s the first 2:21 of “Movin’ Wes - Part 1″ from Wes Montgomery’s “Finest Hour” recording. That’s a Gibson L-5 CES with flatwounds and the tone turned way down (all the way down maybe). I can’t ID the amp.

aww, thanks Kev! :) She’s so cute. It’s funny how different kiddos are, Zara was crawling military style forward for almost 2 months, never crawled backwards and it took her quite a while (ages it seems) to transition gracefully from crawl to sit and vice versa… also, you encourage her with books, we used my cell phone… :) she’s getting SO big!

Nora is useless when a cell phone is in view. She immediately starts posing and hamming it up for the “camera” that she knows to be hidden within the phone. Seriously, I once caught her hamming it up for about 5 minutes while I talked to Jen and walked the baby to campus in her car seat/stroller thing.
