Sitzendes Mädchen

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

At about 3:30 this afternoon Nora sat up by herself for the first time and she was very, very proud of herself. Here are some pictures we managed to capture during this momentous (if not entirely graceful) first sit.

walkies!

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

The recent improvement in our local weather situation has meant a number of improvements in Nora’s already comfortable lifestyle. Chief among these, perhaps, is the ability to go for long walks in her car seat/stroller combo. She seems especially interested in anything that moves which, from her perspective, is almost everything.

21 Jumperoo Street

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Nora’s aunts Judy and Lisa* gave her this incredibly cool jumperoo back when she was still code-named ‘biscuit’. She’s still not quite big enough for it, really, but she *loves* it so we put my Compact OED under (so she can jump (eroo)). Do please note that (a) the OED is priceless to me and (2) not the least bit liquid proof. Parental love truly knows no bounds.

* We all hope you’re recovering well, Lisa.

another happy bathtub picture

Nora just *loves* her hygiene. Actually, she can do without the water and the bathtub and the soap and the scrubbing and the q-tips and the drying and the cuddling and the portable heater. She just really, really likes to not have any clothes on.

not much, how about you?

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

Some of you may have noticed that we’ve been off the air for a while. What can we say? Raising a baby while in grad school and/or working is hard. We’re likely to be similarly spotty for the next couple of weeks and I promise this hurts us more than it hurts you.

This has been a big week. Nora rolled over for the first time on Tuesday and absolutely scared the crap out of herself. She cried so hard Jennie and I actually checked to make sure she hadn’t sprained her wrist or something. She’s finally gotten to see the sun and smell what fresh air smells like — she seems fond of both. She really enjoys having books read to her now (and will reach out to turn pages and chew on the book). She also seems to maybe be spinning up to start teething. Yay? Finally, I have to say a giant “thank you!” to each of Nora’s grandmas. They each came over to watch Nora for us at different times this week and I can’t imagine how we’d have survived otherwise.

Here’s a picture of Nora wearing her storied fish onesie. The onesie was a gift from Zara who, in turn, had been given the onesie by La but with artwork by me. Nora appreciates both this rich history and the fact that she apparently finds the shirt delicious.

p.s. oh! those adorable brown pants from the post just before this one? Those pants don’t fit her anymore (she wore them twice).
