um… do I know you?

Friday, March 14th, 2008

It’s a little early for Nora to be experiencing stranger anxiety but she has been for about a week now — she might be a little introverted*. Our good friend Gabi came over to watch Nora when I was struggling to meet a deadline and our bean repaid her by making faces like the one seen here. Somewhere between “you’re not my Mommy!” and “do I *know* you?”

Thanks, Gabi!

* she didn’t exactly lick that off the pavement.

nobody puts baby in a corner

Poor little n is being very, very good in the corner of my (home) office this morning watching me sit at my desk and read articles. I’ve tried reading aloud to her (the articles are even about child language development — one of her specialties), but she seems unimpressed.

I gives you back yer change…

My friend Susan gave us this cute onesie which I thought to photograph while changing her diaper*. What? You don’t keep a digital camera next to the baby wipes?

* Nora’s diaper, not Susan’s diaper. I don’t think Susan even wears diapers but, if she does, I’m not changing them.

10 hours of sleep.

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

10 uninterrupted hours of sleep are a lot in anyone’s book. If you’re a 15 week old baby girl, though, 10 hours is kind of astonishing. Nora went to bed at 9:30pm Friday and stayed asleep until 7:30am Saturday. Then she went to sleep at about 9:15pm last night, got jostled a bit at 10:00 by us packing up to leave grandma & grandpa’s house, lost an hour to the infernal absurdity that is daylight saving time, and slept until 7:00am this morning. Here she is cuddled up on Jen for a mid-afternoon nap:

We’ve posted a previous photo of our wee vixen in the reindeer outfit, but back at one month of age she was literally swimming in the darn thing. Now at a comparatively wizened 3 mos it fits her quite nicely. Since we have cleverly chosen to live our lives in the frozen comet-like wasteland that is Michigan, it’s even vaguely appropriate for our daughter to be prancing about in woolly winter wear (with antlers!) long after Cupid has departed with his Valentine’s wishes. Meanwhile our friends in more habitable climes are already enjoying thunder and lightning rather than bitter cold and a wintry mix.

I don’t want to give away our blockbuster blog post of the month, but if you like the idea of a baby in a reindeer suit just wait until you’ve seen her Easter coat. Ho ho ho!

13 lbs of misery and woe

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Here’s a candid shot of Nora wallowing in the brand of misery and woe that is her wont. If only there were something we could do to make her a happier baby. It really breaks our hearts to see her so down.

Many thanks to Geraldine & Mavis for the transatlantic care package that contained this amazingly soft sweater/shirt/pants combo. We were in Ireland almost exactly a year ago… *sigh*

When do you think Nora will be ready for her first shift at the desk?

Nora’s BFF (bear friend forever)

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Since they first met Nora has gotten a bit larger, older, and more outgoing (and less asleep). Ruggles still isn’t too sure about this interloper, but in this shot they look like two old pals down at the pub for a drink.
