jacques (is not a monkey)

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Actually, jacques is a peacock and he is also Nora’s new favorite toy. She’s spent several hours this week crinkling his tail feathers in her little hands, poking at his little mirror, staring at his face, gnawing on his beak, etc. Also, Jen and I like him a lot better now that we know he’s a peacock and not a giant bug ( we originally assumed he was a giant bug — I think it was the eyes ).

p.s. Normally I’d prefer to link to brain station toys, but they seem to be out of this particular toy.

Three months!

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

To celebrate her three month-a-versary, Nora decided to let her inner anglophile out:

release the hounds!

We’re not sure what she’s plotting here, but Nora sure does a good Mr Burns impression.

rousing success

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

Last night was Nora’s first night sleeping alone in her own room and it was an unqualified success. Jen and I were both a little freaked out by the silence in our room but Nora slept as well as ever. I figured we’d be awakened this morning by the frantic cries of a lonely baby but, quite the contrary, we were met by a chorus of happy cooing and hooting sounds. This kid is LOUD. Someone needs to have a talk with her parents.

(note: the discarded pooh hat marks the approximate location and orientation of Nora when she’d gone back to sleep a few hours before. )

(p.s. she was so happy this morning that she was just too quick for our camera to capture clearly. This shot was taken with sunlight streaming in, both overhead lights on, and the flash. This was also like my tenth try and she’s smiling and waving her arms (and feet) in every single shot. Eventually we had to stop trying to take the stupid picture and play with her.)

g & g & vandermoosh

Grandma and Grandpa K were gracious enough to come over and babysit Nora this afternoon so Jen and I could go to work. Word is she was a very good girl in our absence and, bizarrely, accepted a pacifier for the first time. We won’t be making a habit of the pacifier, but it’s kind of cool that she took it.

Here’s our wee lass all snazzed-up in her pretty purple pooh outfit courtesy of cowra vandermoosh and company:

no refund, no exchange

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

90 days ago today we accepted (expedited) delivery of our little Nora. Earlier today I tried to find a customer service number on her birth certificate (she didn’t come with a gift receipt) but alas could find none. Since we appear to be stuck with each other I guess it’s good that she turns out to be a Michigan fan.

Many thanks to Hans and Tricia for the spiffy onesie.

3 - 6 mos

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

It’s unavoidable now; she’s out of all of her newborn and 0 - 3 month clothes and wearing 3 and 3 - 6 month stuff. These larger garments have things like pockets and zippers. It’s all very exciting.

Here’s me and Nora accidentally making the same face (disturbingly, I look a lot like my dad here, I think).

but then she went back to watching the hockey game…

Last Friday evening we attended a dinner party at Sally and Rich Thomason’s house. Nora, as you can see, was very excited about it.

star light, star bright

Nora’s not really that into toys yet - she’ll stare at them, but doesn’t try to interact with them. But she loves, loves, loves her playmat (especially the musical star):
